CREATING AN EXPERIENCECommunity theatre is collaborative. It engages, entertains and unites people - people of all backgrounds, cultures, races, beliefs. It takes us to a safe space - a place where we can escape into story and sing along - a place where we can empathize and connect with what is uniquely human about everyone - a place to discover that we are all more alike than unalike and that we all dream the same dreams.
Come join us at Old Town Theatre, as a performer, a committee volunteer or as a member of the audience, to discover - or rediscover - the magic of live performance. Musical theatre from Broadway, family stage productions, classic drama, comedy and romance - all are part of the EXPERIENCE we create every season at Old Town Theatre. See You Around The TOWN! |
The Company @ Old Town Theatre
might be new, but the production team for the Company is still manned by many of the names and faces you remember from community theatre, and there are a lot of new faces as well. We are busy these days. There are plays to produce, props and sets to build, participants to cast, and cast members to costume. Come join us. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience. We have some of the best acting, dance and vocal coaches in town working with us. We offer acting evaluations and one-on-one training sessions that will help you prepare for auditions and the right role. If you'd like to participate but don't want to grace the stage, you can shadow and train with our techs to learn (or teach) digital backdrop projection, costuming, makeup, stage management, public relations and promotions, playbill design or lights and sound. And coming soon, directed internships for Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State University students! Don't want a big commitment? You can audition for a "street role," in Dickens on the Square or for one of our "quick skit" performances at a downtown festival. A couple of prep sessions and an inexpensive costume are all you'll need! Do you have children who want to join you? We can help you create a family experience where everyone can play together! Want to direct a play or mentor? Your experience and guidance could make all the difference to someone else. Look over the schedule, give us a call or drop us a note. We are happy to answer questions and help you and your family become a part of The Company @ Old Town Theatre! 936-293-8681 [email protected] Contact: Ron Dodson, Artistic Director Sheila Cannon, Music Director and Vocal Coach |
What is Rising Stars?
Here at Old Town Theatre we believe that education in the arts is essential to our children’s success, personal growth and well-being. Participation in performing arts teaches children discipline, how to work as part of a team and get along well with others and how to play to their own strengths. It teaches them values, integrity, responsibility and a sense of duty to those around them. As members of a cast or production team they learn that their success depends on others – that they rise, or fall, together. Research shows that children who receive education and participation opportunities in the arts do better in school. They are more likely to retain what they are taught. They are better problem solvers, better at critical thinking and sound decision making, better at testing and more likely to assume leadership roles in their communities. Rising Stars supports arts education and participation and offers FREE, quality programs that engage students and help them build poise, confidence and a strong sense of self. We are now in our 16th year of student programming at Old Town Theatre, and while the Rising Stars Production Team name and logo might be new, there’s nothing new about the quality and value of our student performing arts program. We encourage you to support our community's children as a volunteer or mentor or with a donation or a sponsorship to the Rising Stars program. We, and they, need your help as we continue to offer them the best programming and training we can and an opportunity to shine like the RISING STARS they are! Thank you for your support of Rising Stars Performing Arts Students and Old Town Theatre! 936-293-8681 [email protected] |
