Rising Stars Parents and Cast Page
Stuff for ParentsParents Welcome
Rising Stars is not just a student theatre program at Old Town Theatre; it is a family organization. As such, we depend on parents to be involved in almost every aspect of the theatre production. While our director, stage manager and vocal and dance coach will handle the task of getting your student ready to perform, students will need YOU to do your part to help them get to rehearsals and performances on time, assist with costuming and make-up and serve as parent liaisons during rehearsals and performances. If your student is cast in a show, we require at least one parent to be involved and to attend at least TWO mandatory Parents Meetings. Parents Orientation is generally held about two weeks before auditions. There, representatives from the Theatre will walk you through the process and answer any questions. Because there is NO CHARGE for students to participate in Rising Star Productions, parents need to be prepared to join at least one parents committee to help our volunteers. Three more mandatory parents committee meetings will be held prior to Performance , and each cast member must have at least one parent (or representative 18 years or older) attend TWO or more of these meetings. The packets below will guide you through the process and help you record and remember essential dates. In addition, this site will be updated regularly to keep you informed. Parent Volunteer Support Teams are essential to the performance. You will actively serve on at least one Parent Support Team during rehearsal and performance weeks. You will get to know other students and parents, and we will utilize your experience and skills to help every student have the best possible theatre experience. Whether you sew costumes, bake cookies or just come to lend moral support, your student and the other students in attendance will depend on you and learn from your wisdom and guidance. Our CredentialsARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Ron Dodson is a retired Speech and Theatre teacher from Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, with 30 years of teaching under his belt and many years being a part of Austin’s theatre scene. He believes that participation in student theatre offers children a chance to move gracefully and competently to the "stage of life" by teaching them strong life skills and building their character. Ron is excited to be a part of the Board of Directors at Old Town Theatre, and is looking forward to the upcoming shows and keeping the “theatre lights” alive and strong in his newly adopted city of Huntsville.

Coming in 2019-20Old Town Theatre will have two Rising Stars Productions in 2019-20.
This fall, we are doing A Christmas Carol again, Dec. 13-15, and auditions will be held October 24 and 25 at the Theatre. We have between 12 and 20 slots available for students (depending on age), and many are speaking roles. This will be joint production between Rising Stars and The Company @ Old Town. If you (and your child) are new to Rising Stars, we strongly recommend you attend one of our Orientation or Pre-Production Meetings at the Theatre. To be part of all the fun, join Rising Stars and The Company @ Old Town. We will send you emails to remind you of dates, invite you to production meetings and keep you "in the know." February 2020, we are presenting Peter Pan. Auditions will be held January 8 and 9 at the Theatre. This is also a Rising Stars / Company production, with our talented students filling roles and some of the behind the scenes tech positions as well. We will cast 15 or more students for the play and several more for tech positions. See You Around The TOWN! What To Expect
The cost of producing a youth play, particularly a well-known musical, can be quite expensive. We rely on community donations to make productions possible, and we believe every student should be able to participate free of charge. Community sponsors will help us with some of these costs, and ticket sales will help us at the end, but during production time, we rely heavily on parents to help our students have the best possible experience. If your student is cast, you will be responsible for:
Requirement: In order to participate in a Rising Stars production, your child must be AT LEAST 8 years of age by the day of audition. Your child must be YOUNGER than 18 years of age on the last day of performance. Note: We welcome young people aged 17 and older in The Company @ Old Town Theatre. To learn more about the details, follow the links the the packets above. If you're new to auditions and student theatre, start with the Auditions Packet.
