Old Town Theatre and SHSU Dept. of Mass Communication Partner to Bring Classic Films Back to Downtown Huntsville!
Not all that long ago, before the age of video games, the Internet and 24-hour satellite media, downtown theaters across the country served as social hubs for communities - a place where adults could meet and be entertained, a place for kids and families to meet on Saturday afternoons for popcorn and a double feature.
There were Westerns, Melodramas, Mysteries - and actors, actresses and directors had real "STAR" quality, with actual red carpets serving as theater accessories to greet them when they arrived to see their films screened in cities all across the country. All of us at Old Town Theatre want to invite you to join us for a bit of that experience again as we open our doors to the Sam Houston State University College of Fine Arts and Mass Communication and the SHSU Film Program.
This isn't a Cinema visit. This is a REAL, magical movie experience - in a grand, old Theatre and with films you may never again have the chance to see on the big screen. And to enhance your appreciation and enjoyment of film, Dr. Grant Weidenfeld and his film students will share interesting trivia and historical facts about the featured films.
There's a little something for everyone this year! And there's more to come. We will be adding new film screenings all throughout the year as time and space permits, and filling the season with a growing variety of interesting and entertaining choices. And each semester rounds off with a screening of original student films in Film Showcase.
Come join us as we bring film back to our beautiful downtown Theatre. Celebrate again the beauty and wonder of movies, enjoy quality entertainment that you won't find anywhere else, and come support our local filmmakers as they show their work!
